Transatlantic Slavery and the Southside

It’s not just much of Glasgow’s city centre that was built by the slave trade – the Southside shamefully benefited and profited from it too.

 

To help rebalance the picture, it’s important to recognise the role the Southside played and the darker side of the local area’s history.

Find out about the transatlantic slave trade’s links in the Southside and how local plantation merchants were involved in shaping local heritage.

We’ll cover some key people (both merchants and enslaved) and the connections with local historical sites.
