OLD GLASGOW FILMS
Fiona Sinclair's talk covered the topic of "The Glasgow Tenement", and illustrated the many and varied features of this durable and still desirable building type. Although not unique to Glasgow, the tenement is somehow seen by many Glaswegians as their own, and it is true that the history of the development of the city is inextricably linked to the growth, decline, fall and subsequent re-birth of the tenement.  Fiona's talk showed tenements from all walk of life, and at the same time as tracing the history of its development, illustrated the building materials used, the architectural styles adopted and the work carried out by housing associations in the revival of the tenement in recent years.  Gable-end paintings, close wall tiles, and outside toilets all featured in Fiona's talk, which concluded by giving examples of the use of renewable energies in refurbished tenements and referring those present to articles and publications of interest to those who've either lived in a tenement, or at least observed the revival of this successful model for urban living.
